The fall of greatness: Boom Blox Review

Straight from the mind of the genius behind some of hollywood’s best films. Steven Speilberg came up with the idea of Boom Blox when he realized he wanted to spend more time with him family and play video games with them. He wanted to bring families together, did he accomplish his mission? or did he just end up tearing families apart? Let’s find out.

Boom Blox is a puzzle game in which you have several different modes to play with. You can throw balls at towers, pull blocks out much like Jenga, make bombs explode, any mode that you could perhaps think of that requires blocks, this game does it.

Boom Blox in essence doesn’t have great graphics at all. It’s a relatively simple looking game with square characters. However, this does not hinder the game at all, since graphics really aren’t the point of this game. This game has an incredible physics engine, and that’s all we care about. The physics engine works perfectly.

The gameplay is extremely simple in the sense that anybody can pick up and play this game. However this does not mean in any sense that it’s bad. It has some of the best gameplay I’ve seen on the wii yet. It’s endlessly fun, and really, it’s fun that hardcore gamers, as well as casual gamers could enjoy.

Really, in this aspect, there really isn’t much to speak of. It has decent music, but really, nothing memorable. The music is somewhat childish, however it fits with the atmosphere of the rest of the game.

You can have up to 4 players playing this game at once. The multiplayer is endlessly fun, and everyone in my house is addicted and absolutely loves this game. There is also the added bonus of being able to create levels and send them to your friends via Wifi. You can also download your friends levels.

In Conclusion:

This is a game that could be off putting to the hardcore gamer by it’s “kiddy” graphics, but once into the game, I guarantee everyone will become addicted to this game.

It gets a 5 out of 5.

I know, it’s been long, I seem to do this quite a bit, just disappear for a while, then re-appear. I’m like David Blane. Anyways, beside the point, I have an actual valid excuse this time. I’ve been working on a script, this fantastic shot that came out of nowhere. One day the inspiration hit me.

I’m now planning for the shoot in July, looking for locations, selecting music, casting actors, hiring a crew, etc. On top of that, I’m working on a couple of other projects, such as putting a brand new website up for my production company that’ll link to this site, and the forum ( if anyone forgot.)

This is a very exciting time in my life, and I will share more details when I can disclose more information. Enjoy.

culturedcast 2: an update

It’s been a little while, I’ve been dealing with personal stuff so haven’t had time to update you guys on the state of culutredcast 2.

So, I was planning to re-record culturedcast 2 last friday. We were all ready to go, Chris was ready, so was I, however I fell ill and lost my voice, therefore could not speak. Our material is pretty shit, and I wouldn’t be able to speak up, and my voice would be in-audible, therefore we scratched the plans for culturedcast 2 last weekend.

So now, I’m moving towards making plans to record culturedcast 2 on saturday. However, I can’t promise it for this weekend. I want it to happen, but after how I fell really ill, I will not make any promises.

Also, Due to tremendous download numbers, I still haven’t found a permanent fix to host the culturedcasts, so what I’m going to do is host them temporarily through rapid share. A horrible fix, but it’s only for a short period of time, not to worry.

Still working on getting a server up and running.

where’s culturedcast 2?

in the toilet.

We recorded a great podcast, however, due to extreme technical difficulties, we lost it all. See, we record the podcast on 2 different computers, then merge the tracks together on 1 of the comps… we need to do this via a usb key, when transfering the audio to the usb key, the usb key froze, and the file was gone forever.

So no culturedcast this week, no culturedcast next week, you will have to wait 2 more weeks to get a new 1, I apologize.

The new format

So, since we’ve gotten alot of hits, we have also received ALOT of feedback. The main theme of a majority of the emails were “Why or how are you cultured? you sound like most other gaming podcasts” and “I thought when you guys would deviate away from games, you were really funny.” So because of this, Chris and I have discussed things, and came up with a new formula.

We decided that about 15-20% of the culturedcast will focus on games (so 15-20 minutes, since its about an hour long podcast) and the rest of it will just be filled with everything from personal stories (which was in large demand, Chris’s bay story was loved.) to just mindless ramblings about this or that.

Also, Eric will not have a microphone again this week, stop bugging me with that.

So let’s hear what you guys think of this? either drop us a comment here, or go over to our forums and let us know.

Culturedcast: server issues and announcing culturedcast 2.

Alright, so as we know the podcast (culturedcast) went live last saturday. It quickly went back offline because we exceeded the servers bandwith (considering it was 5gb, I take that as an achievement.) I was expecting perhaps 20 or so people checking it out and downloading… now if we are to go by the sites counter, it’s currently over 1500 hits (1100 of those being unique page views.)

So because of this I have to change servers to meet the large demand. I will be doing this move to the new server this weekend. I’ve already started to transfer over stuff, but since I have quite abit of stuff to do, it’ll be ready for sure by this weekend.

Also, I’d like to officially announce culturedcast 2 that will be ready for download by saturday.. most likely Sunday though.

Due to next weekend being Easter, we will probably take a week off.

Enjoy everyone.

So, I just finished season 2, and started season 3.

As much as I enjoyed season 2, the first 2 episodes of season 3 blew my socks off… Firstly, I wasn’t expecting Skinner to take a stand like that. Mulder literally coming back from death, and those aliens running around was just awesome… I’m already hooked to season 3. What a great show.

1 thing confused me though to no end, it seems like Mulder was driving a blue 2001 chevy cavalier at the beginning of season 3… the thing is, the show was recorded in 95… So I’m still trying to figure that 1 out.

If the first 2 episodes are any indication for the rest of the season, I think I’m in for a good 1.
